Tips to help Prepare your Pool for Des Moines Summer

Tips to help Prepare your Pool for Des Moines Summer

Summer is almost here, so you’re probably about ready to put on a swimsuit and enjoy the cool water in your pool. Before diving in, you have to ensure that your swimming pool is ready for the season. Proper pool maintenance is crucial to keep your swimming experience positive. Since swimming is always best experienced during summer, you have to do whatever it takes to make every swimming session safe, as well as fun and memorable.

Preparing your pool for the Des Moines summer is just one of the many responsibilities of owning a pool. Though it may sound like a tough task, it will be easier to complete when you know what to do. Here are the things you should do to prepare your pool for summer.

1. Get Everything You Need

Before you get started on the task of getting your pool ready for the sunny days ahead, please make sure that you have everything you need. Have a list of all the things you need. You don’t want to be going back and forth to the nearby store every time you forget something. Here is a list of key items you’ll need:

Spring opening kit (Including chemicals for balancing and water testing)

Skimmer head

Vacuum head

Vacuum hose

Soap or winter cover cleaner

Pool brush

Test kit or test strips

2. Run Your Pump and Filter

If you haven’t prepped your pool in a while, don’t be surprised if it happens to be a different shade of green or has cloudy water. The murky water is easily remedied by leaving the filter system running. Once the pool is clear, you can continue running the system between 10 to 12 hours a day.

3. Start The Process

Begin by bringing your swimming pool up to shape with a chemical open. Your pool is going to need some chemicals (and a little hard physical work) to make it flawless again. Clean out all the baskets and get rid of any plugs that you put in when the pool was last shut down.

4. Top The Water Level Of Your Pool

If the water level has dropped over the wintertime, top it off. Clean the filter before you turn it on. You can clean a cartridge filter by taking away the cartridge and rinse with a hose.

5. Test Your Water and Balance Chemicals

Take a sample of your pool water by using a mug, holding it upside down, and putting it in the water elbow deep. Then, turn the cup straight to take the sample. Make sure you take a sample away from your return line. Use your test kit or test strips to check your pH and chlorine levels.

6. Get Your Pool Ready

After making sure your chemical levels are okay, go ahead and do the cleaning. Remove the pool cover, clean and vacuum your pool thoroughly. You can use car wash soap or a winter cover cleaner and a brush to scrub the whole thing down. For the rest of the summer season, keep the filter clean, vacuum the pool each week, and test the chemical levels regularly.

7. Level Concrete Pool Deck

Pool decks can be a surprisingly dangerous area, especially if they haven’t been installed correctly. Given that your pool is full of water, your pool deck needs to have expert pool deck leveling in order to prevent the pool deck itself from collapsing or becoming uneven.

Tripping hazards around a pool can be a cause for concern, but there are ways to remedy it and save someone from getting into an accident. If your pool deck has cracked or voided concrete, think about having it Poly lifted.

  1. You got my attention when you said that you top it off when the water level in your pool has dropped. With this in mind, I will ask my husband to have bulk water delivered to our house so we can use our pool tomorrow. We are expecting to be visited by some friends tomorrow afternoon, and we want the pool to be available for use.
