Waterproofing is the method by which water is redirected out of a structure using tiling (piping) under the concrete floor of the basement which leads to a sump pump. The sump pump then pumps the water up and out of the basement.

Water control is needed when a structure is built at or below grade. Hydrostatic pressure forces water through cracks in your foundation walls and through cracks in the floor. It can also cause major structural damage to foundation walls and it’s likely to contribute to mold growth, decay and other moisture related problems.

Take pictures if possible as they can become a fantastic reference for diagnosing the problem. Remove anything from the area that got wet. Mold can start growing on damp and wet surfaces in a very short time.

Remove any standing water with a wet/dry ShopVac or push the water over to your basement drain using a squeegee.

Start dehumidifying the basement. It is VERY IMPORTANT to start drying out the basement as soon as possible. Put fans on the area to help circulate the air as it’s drying out.

If you have a dehumidifier, utilize this as well to help pull moisture out of the air.
